Natural Remedies for Gout
Raw ACV (apple cider vinegar) is one of my favorite natural remedies that you can use for many things. One of them is for arthritis pain and gout. It helps to alkalize your body, which then helps your body to work more effectively to get rid of uric acid.
A lot of things people consume everyday are quite acidic, which is how you can develop different diseases, etc. You need to keep your body more alkaline so bad yucky things cannot live in there.
You can read more about the benefits of apple cider vinegar here.
Baking soda aka Sodium Bicarbonate is the most inexpensive home remedy for a ton of things! This, just like Apple cider vinegar (ACV), makes your body more alkaline. It increases the blood and body fluids Ph level which then makes uric acid more soluble, which in turn makes it easier to flush out of the kidneys, restoring the natural alkaline balance in your body.
Try a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of lemon water in the morning!
Turmeric – It is considered a super food. The active compound curcumin is known to have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-fungal and antibacterial activities. Turmeric can be very helpful to people suffering from gout.
Not sure how to take turmeric? Here is a drink recipe that includes apple cider vinegar, turmeric, ginger and some other healthy yummy goods! Or here you can find some other ways to add turmeric to your everyday life.
Ginger – Ginger root contains anti-inflammatory properties which help to relieve pain and inflammation. You can use either the powdered ginger or fresh — I always like fresh ingredients over anything else but if you don’t have any fresh ginger — this organic ginger root is tasty and good as well.
Tart Cherry Juice/Cherries
You can find Cherry juice at pretty much any health food store in your area. You want to make sure you get one that has no added sugars – just straight plain ole cherry juice or cherry juice concentrate.
Lemon – Lemon juice alkalizes the body and neutralizes the excess uric acid in your blood stream. You can drink freshly squeezed lemon in a glass of water after meals to prevent a gout attack or you can make this yummy drink 🙂
VERY IMPORTANT: Drink a lot a lot of water to flush out your system!
It is important to remember that the most effective is a healthy diet combined with exercise to help lower uric acid levels. Exercising will help reduce the painful symptoms and recurrence of gout.
Some things to stay away from
**high fructose corn syrup — there are so so many health problems associated with high fructose corn syrup like high cholesterol and diabetes. It is known to inhibit the excretion of uric acid and is an awful thing to consume. One major health problem is gout. Stay away from high fructose corn syrup!!
*Minimize Alcohol intake – it promotes dehydration and irritates the urinary tract.
